Covid-19 Update
Folly beach, ‘The Edge of America” has been closed for over six weeks to non-residents, and access has been strictly enforced by police. For many residents of Charleston County, including the Isla team the closure has felt like forever. Folly is our favorite surf break in South Carolina and is one of the county’s most beloved beaches for kiteboarding, walking, biking, and other forms of exercise. For many being able to exercise on the beach is a great way to stay healthy physically and also mentally.
Surfing is a great mental escape from the daily hustle and helps alleviate stress and worries. Sadly with the public beaches and parks closed Charleston residents have struggled to do the activities they love, especially ocean-based sports.
Fortunately, there is a glimpse of hope. Select Charleston County Parks have re-opened such as Meggett County Park, Wannamaker North Trail, and Stono River County Park with more parks re-opening soon!
As for the beaches, Folly Beach had a special council meeting to discuss the gradual re-opening of the beach. Starting May 5th, the checkpoint will operate from 7 AM to 7 PM, and the beach will be open for exercise only. This will allow county residents to exercise early in the morning or pick up take out around dinner time. The city hopes to reduce the checkpoint hours over the next several weeks if medical data and compliance with social distances deem it safe.
This is not the news the Isla team was hoping for but it is the start in the right direction. We are very excited to start teaching and hope to be running very soon! Feel free to check our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates as more information comes out!
