Best Spring Break Surf Destinations

For some Spring Break is here! For other’s it is just around the corner. If you or your family are looking to take a memorable trip with some fun in the sun, why not give surfing a try! Here are some of our favorite surf spring break destinations.

Rincon, Puerto Rico

While Puerto Rico isn’t technically a state, you don’t need a passport to travel there. That makes it a great Spring Break destination! Travel to Puerto Rico is relatively easy and short if you are on the East Coast. Rincon offers your traditional Spring Break nightlife for all you college kids, while also offering consistent and fun waves in March and April. Travel to Puerto Rico is also relatively affordable! Rincon, Puerto Rico will surely be a Spring Break surfing trip you’ll remember!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Mexico is pretty synonymous with Spring Break. Skip the party scene in Cancun and head over to Cabo San Lucas for Spring Break. With average water temperatures of 70 degrees in March and 71 degrees in April, and wave heights of 3.6 feet in March and 4.3 feet in April, Cabo is a great surfing destination. Cabo is an easy haul for those on the West Coast and a number of surf spots are within an hours drive of Cabo. Don’t stay out too late the night before because you will want to catch the favorable early morning winds!

Limon, Costa Rica

If you are looking to escape the US and go on a purely surfing Spring Break trip, check out Limon, Costa Rica. Limon is located on Costa Rica’s Southern Caribbean Coast. To get to Limon, you will have to fly into San Jose and drive from there. The drive is about three to four hours, but well worth it to be able to surf in this renowned Caribbean surf destination. Be sure to check out Puerto Viejo, where you can find the Salsa Brava, one of the most famous and dangerous waves on the planet.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida

If you don’t want to worry about getting a passport, or aren’t looking to venture too far, check out New Smyrna Beach, Florida. New Smyrna is located just south of Daytona. Leave the party scene behind in Daytona, and enjoy a relaxing surf vacation. New Smyrna is also a very family friendly and offers a multi-generational surf environment. With waves in March reaching two to three feet and water temperatures in the upper 60’s, New Smyrna is a great, affordable Spring Break surfing destination.
