May Events Around Charleston, SC
Spring has finally sprung in Charleston, the school year is wrapping up, and summer vacation is about to begin. The ocean is warming up and the beach is coming alive. With so many activities and events going on in and around Folly Beach and Charleston it’s hard to choose what to do on the weekends. Here are some of our favorite May events in the lowcountry:
Charleston Greek Festival, Friday, May 11th- Sunday, May 13th
Get your Greek on at the 48th Annual Charleston Greek Festival taking place at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Charleston. The event features a variety of Greek foods, as well as, live music and live entertainment. Admission is $5 and Mom’s get in Free on Mother’s Day!
15th Annual Moms’ Run + Family Fun Day, Saturday, May 12th
Kick-off Mother’s Day weekend with the 15th Annual Moms’ Run on Daniel Island. The event features a 5k run/walk through Daniel Island finishing at MUSC Stadium. Following the race, a Family Fun Day will begin with jump castles, face painting, crafts, and games. Registration fees are $35 for adults ($40 for those with strollers), and $25 for children under 10. All proceeds benefit Postpartum Support.
2nd Sunday on King Street, Sunday, May 13th
After enjoying Mother’s Day brunch with Mom, hang out for Second Sunday on King Street. The event take places Downtown on King Street, south of Calhoun and features various vendors, shopping, and live music. The event is free to the public. Can’t make this one, don’t worry? Second Sunday occurs the second Sunday of every month.
Charleston Beer Garden, Saturday, May 19th
The annual Charleston Beer Garden takes place Saturday, May 19th at the Grove at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. The event features over 30 breweries, a Homebrewers Village, food, games, and live music. Tickets are $25 prior to the event ($35 at the gate) and include five beer tickets and commemorative festival mug.
Spoleto Festival USA, Friday, May 25th- Sunday, June 10th
Charleston’s largest arts and cultural festival, Spoleto, kicks off Friday, May 25th and runs through the second week of June. The 17 day and night event fills Charleston area churches, theaters, and outdoor spaces with opera, theater, and dance. Be sure to check out the schedule and plan to attend a Spoleto performance. It's little sister festival, Piccolo Spoloto, runs consecutively and its put on by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, boasting hundreds of performances by local artists and performers at venues throughout the lowcountry. Many Piccolo Spoleto events are free and all are open to the public!
