5 Things to Do in Charleston in August

The summer is winding down, but that doesn’t mean there isn't a plethora of activities and events going on in and around Charleston. Here are some of our favorite events happening this August in the Holy City.

 

Hootie and the Blowfish Homegrown Weekend

South Carolina natives Hootie and the Blowfish, will take the stage at Volvo Cars Stadium on August 10th and August 11th for their 16th Annual Homegrown Weekend. The event serves as a fundraising effort for the local community. Tickets for both days are sold out, however, stay tuned to Ticketmaster in the event more tickets are released.

Ballpark Festival of Beers

The Ballpark Festival of Beers takes place at Joe Riley Stadium on Saturday, August 18th at 7pm. The event features over 100 beers from various breweries, food trucks, games, and more. Tickets are $30 at any area Kickin’ Chicken or $35 at the gate and include 18 sampling tickets. VIP tickets are available for $60 and include entry at 6pm, 25 sampling tickets, and access to a VIP tent with food available.

Riverdogs Baseball

Just because the summer is winding down, doesn’t mean you’ve missed your opportunity to take in a Riverdogs baseball game. The Riverdogs will be home August 7-13 with weekly events including Thirsty Thursday ($1 beers) and Fireworks Friday. Can’t make it August 7-13? Don’t sweat it! The Riverdogs will also be home August 23-26th, and will be wrapping up their season August 31-September 3.

Grape Stomp Festival

Pack the car and head down to Deep Water Vineyards on Wadamalaw for their Annual Grape Stomp Festival. The event features food, music, and of course, grape stomping. Be sure to check out some of Deep Water Vineyard’s newest releases. Admission is $10 per car.

South Carolina Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival

The 5th Annual South Carolina Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival will take place Sunday, August 26th from noon-7pm at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. The event celebrates all things Jamaican culture and includes a Jerk cook-off, wine tasting, and reggae music. Tickets are $40 and include a complimentary 3 oz wine sample in a complimentary 9 oz wine glass and more. All proceeds from the event will benefit Healthy Lifestyle Inc, a 501 (c) nonprofit.
